Certificate in Business Computing
This certificate is designed for those individuals
wanting to build their competencies in the latest business-software
applications. Students will learn basic and advanced software
competencies for home and business. Upon completion the student
will have a working knowledge of Windows Operating Systems,
Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Microsoft
PowerPoint and the Internet. Students will choose two applications
for advanced knowledge. Classes include hands-on training.
Assistance towards MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist)
Certification.
Operating Systems (8 hours required)
o Windows Basics (8 hours)
Learn to use the Windows operating system to manage information,
run programs, and access the Web: Windows environment, Windows
Explorer, Windows programs, customizing the desktop, and overview
of Internet Explorer.
Word Processing (24 hours required)
o Word Basics (8 hours)
Learn the basics such as how to create, save, edit and print
documents. Also learn some additional editing techniques such
as how to move, copy and enhance text; format documents, use
proofing tools, tabs, indents and page numbers. This beginning
level class will help you with basic document preparation.
o Word Intermediate (8 hours)
Learn to use templates and styles, create envelopes, tables,
columns, outlines, headers and footers. Create and format
tables, insert graphics, use macros and mail merge.
o Word Advanced (8 hours)
Learn how to integrate word with other programs while exploring
advanced graphics, building forms, and working with charts
and diagrams.
Spreadsheets (24 hours required)
o Excel Basics (8 hours)
This course will help the student to use an electronic spreadsheet
to create basic data reports. Topics include: create, modify,
format and print worksheets. Students will also work with
basic formulas and functions, styles, AutoFormat and charts.
o Excel Intermediate (8 hours)
Learn how to use multiple workbooks, enhance and link worksheets,
name cells and formulas, use special format options.
o Excel Advanced (8 hours)
Define the "What-If Analysis", summarize data with pivot tables,
exchange data with other programs, gain control over work
with templates, and use macros.
Database (8 hours required)
o Access Basics (8 hours)
Learn basic database functions: design and create databases,
tables, queries, forms and reports. Use wizards, modify and
format, sorting and calculations; and database maintenance.
Presentations (8 hours required)
o PowerPoint Basics (8 hours)
Do you want to learn how to put together a professional looking
presentation quickly and easily? PowerPoint has this power.
The student will learn to create and modify slides and presentations
by using drawing tools, clip art, word art, organization charts
and Microsoft Graph, templates and master slides; and presentation
options.
Internet (8 hours required)
o Frontpage Level I (8 hours)
Learn basic web page creation and management skills using
FrontPage: create, develop, design, and customize web pages.
